Learning Anatomy through Sculpture

TheEmbrace1aThis figurative two-part workshop is devoted to realistically sculpting in clay a female and male model in a seated pose. There will be three sessions with a female model and three sessions with a male model. The sessions will focus on teaching participants to see and interpret correctly female and male anatomy. Emphasis will be placed on creating sculptures that accurately capture the pose and that have correct proportions. Figurative artists who work in 2-D and 3-D art forms can benefit from the workshop. Individual instruction will enable each participant, beginners and advanced artists, to work at their own pace.

To advance skills in rendering human anatomy nude models are used for all figurative sculpture sessions. Participants will complete two separate sculptures (one female and one male). The female and male model will be in poses that relate to each other in an interesting and interactive composition. Participants can sign up for all six 3-hour sessions or elect to just take either the three 3-hour female or male sessions. The workshop fee for the 6 sessions is $145. The fee for either the three female or three male sessions is $85. Water-base clay will be available for purchase at the first session for $15 per twenty-five pounds bag. Payment is due at the first session attended and can be by cash or check/money order made out to James Fatata, sorry no credit cards. The fee covers the use of sculpting stand, model fee, studio facility, and bisque firing of the finished sculpture(s).
