In order to give emerging and established artists the opportunity to exhibit their art, Litmus Gallery is available certain months for an artist or group of artists to rent Litmus Gallery to showcase their work in an art exhibit.
Artists are to install the exhibit, provide labels for the exhibited art, help advertise the exhibit, coordinate to provide refreshments, and attend the First Friday 6-9 pm reception for the exhibit. Artists are to install their art between 10 am and 2 pm on the Thursday before the First Friday of the month they are renting, or by special arrangement earlier in that same week. Art must be removed between noon and 2 pm on the third Thursday following the First Friday opening.
All works of art exhibited must be for sale. Works must be original and committed to the show for the entire exhibition period. Litmus Gallery & Studios reserves the right to refuse any work that is not properly presented, requires special installation, or is deemed inappropriate by the Litmus Gallery Artist committee. To facilitate advertising the exhibit, featured artists are to submit, at least 4 weeks prior to the month that the exhibit is occurring, a title for the exhibit plus a description of the work being displayed.
Presentation Specifications: Artists are responsible for hanging their work in a professional manner. All works must be securely hung on hardware capable of supporting the weight of the piece. Our resident artists who have experience curating shows are able to give complementary recommendations if needed. Labels should be placed on the walls with appropriate non-damaging putty or adhesive and general care taken to minimize any wall damage during the installation and removal of the show.
Liability: Exhibiting artists retain ownership of all work exhibited at Litmus Gallery & Studios. Works are exhibited at the risk of the artist. Although the utmost care will be taken in handling all art work, Litmus Gallery & Studios will not be responsible for damage or loss from any cause. Submitting a work of art shall imply an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth here.
Sales: Sales will be encouraged. Litmus Gallery & Studios will retain a commission of 20% on all sales. The artist is committed to the sale price placed on the art at the time of delivery. In order to encourage sales Litmus Gallery may offer a discount to a customer. The discount is taken out of the gallery commission and the artist still receives 80% of the original sales price.
Removal: Unless sold, all artwork must remain on view until the close of the exhibition. Unsold works should be picked up noon-2 pm on the Thursday that the exhibition ends or by special arrangement.
Inventory: Exhibiting artists are to complete and submit two copies of the inventory form, listing all art being exhibited with the title of the work, dimensions, medium and price. An inventory is to be turned in when the art is installed in the gallery.
Selection: Artists selected for an exhibition at Litmus Gallery will be contacted via email for other pertinent information.
