James (Jim) Fatata
is a native of North Carolina. He earned an undergraduate degree in 1967 and
a Master’s degree in 1969 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He completed additional postgraduate work in 1989 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Jim is an accomplished artist who specializes
in figurative sculpture. The prosaic visions he creates resonate with drama and
intrigue. He draws upon his observations of everyday experiences to infuse his
work with evocative themes and surprises that amuse and challenge us to contemplate seemingly contradicting elements. Passion and sensuality also frequently play a strong role in his creations.
Jim’s works have been juried into numerous
art shows and exhibitions and he is available for commissions that specialize in figurative art. He teaches sculpture classes at Litmus Gallery and the Craft Center at North Carolina State University. He also manages the Raleigh Sculpture Group that meets weekly and provides sculptors the opportunity to create figurative
art from live models. You can see additional examples of his work by scheduling
an appointment to visit Litmus Gallery and his studio at 312 W. Cabarrus St., Raleigh, NC.
